What do I need receipts for in a home insurance claim?

In the event of a claim, you will fill out a claim form and possibly a loss adjuster may visit your home. The latter normally occurs only with larger claims.

When completing the claim form, it is useful to have as many receipts as possible.

An insurer will normally insist on receipts for valuable items e.g. items in excess of £1000. They are also likely to ask for valuations for art collections.

If you do not have the receipt for an item you are concerned about then have a valuation. It is also wise to keep digital photos on record (not in your own home in case of total loss) of any valuables. These could show the exceptional condition of any items you are looking to claims for.
