Home owners warned to get adequate home insurance

Many  UK home owners are failing to buy adequate home insurance and often undervalue their possessions.

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) estimates that 25 per cent of households do not have any contents cover, whilst two-thirds of those that do are believed to be underinsured.

"More people renew their home insurance in the spring than at any other time so now is a good time both to make sure you are properly covered and are getting good value for your premium," said Kevin Sinclair, director of AA Insurance

"People often arrange their cover when they take out a mortgage - and then simply forget it. It's only when they make a claim that they may find their cover is inadequate."

In particular, home owners are being urged not to undervalue the cost of replacing carpets, especially as carpet damage is one of the most common reasons for claims.
