Home improvement professionals win out over DIY

 

The Bank Holiday tradition of a family nipping down to the DIY superstore could be rare this Easter holiday - HFS suggests that more and more British homeowners are turning to professionals for home improvement.

 

The research, by financial brokers the HFS Group, shows that just one in five homeowners are planning to get out the DIY hand tools this Easter weekend - compared to three in five in 2002.

 

The survey also revealed that almost all men - 93 per cent of those questioned - are willing to set pride aside and admit that they would rather have professionals in to redecorate.

"People today are much more savvy about what will and won't add value to their homes, and employing home improvement professionals can often make them more money in the long run," said Mila Bhatkar, research manager at Hfs.

 

Homeowners that do make improvements to their house should ensure their house insurance is appropriately updated, however.
