Contents Insurance - What is covered as standard
You should always check your policy carefully to see what items you are covered for. Policies from various insurers change and the cover on this page is laid out only as a general indication of what is standard in a UK home insurance policy.
Insurance companies generally will settle insurance claims for damage caused by;
- Fire Explosion Lightning or Earthquake
- Smoke
- Storm or damage
- Subsidence, Heave, Landslip or Landslide
- Riot or Civil Commotion
- Malicious Persons or vandals
- Escape of oil or water
- Theft or attempted theft
- Impact to the home involving a vehicle train or animal
- Impact involving an aircraft, aerial device or anything falling from them
- Falling TV or radio aerials, satellite dishes their fittings or masts
- Falling trees or branches
The following cover is usually included as additional benefits
- Accidental damage to TV sets and aerials, VCRs, satellite receiving systems, Hi fis and DVD players.
- Contents of outbuildings
- Contents of your garden
- Accidental breakage to mirrors and glass
- Temporary removal of contents
- Alternative Accommodation if your home is uninhabitable
- Your liability as a tenant to your landlord
- Replacement of Locks if your keys are stolen
- Your liability to the public
